Providing plastic and reconstructive surgery since 1981
The Robinson Foundation was established in 1981 as part of the dream of Dr. O. Gordon Robinson to provide much needed medical care in the form of plastic and reconstructive surgery to the people of Honduras. Gordon was one of the first plastic surgeons in the state of Alabama and practiced in Birmingham for over 40 years. Working in the small mountain town of Coyoles, Honduras, Dr. Robinson and his wife Kitty developed strong local relationships with the Standard Fruit Company and the local physicians.
The Robinson Foundation Medical Mission travels to Coyoles, Honduras twice a year to provide plastic surgical services for the underserved people of the Aguan Valley.
The Hospital Coyoles is a small hospital with a single operating room. The Foundation was able to build an addition to the Coyoles Hospital which houses two fully functional plastic surgery operating rooms. Although the main portion of the hospital no longer offers surgical services or in-patient care, it has continued maintaining the facilities necessary for the Robinson Foundation to carry out its medical mission, serving those in need.
The Robinson Foundation Clinic houses two fully functional plastic surgery operating rooms.
Prior to the trip the team purchases and obtains medical supplies and equipment. After arriving in Coyoles, the team sorts through supplies. The Foundation keeps the medical supplies needed for the clinic and distributes the rest to local hospitals for charitable care. Clothing, hygiene products are also distributed.
